"Michael the archangel"

(Jude 9 KJV)

Michael the Archangel is mentioned in the Books of Daniel, Jude, and Revelation.  He appears to be the chief of the seven archangels.  Gabriel is another archangel: he is mentioned in Daniel and Luke.  Two others are named: Raphael (Tobit) and Uriel (2 Esdras).  We will hear "the voice of the archangel" (1 Thess. 4:16) when the Rapture takes place.  Michael rebuked the devil in Jude 9.  "Michael and his angels" defeat Satan in Revelation Chapter 12. Below I've included a Catholic prayer to Michael the Archangel.  Charles Haddon Spurgeon believed Michael was a personification of Jesus Christ because Christ is called by the Apostle Paul "an angel of God" (Galatians 4:14).

PRAYER:

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle,

be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil;

may God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God, thrust down to hell

Satan and all the wicked spirits

who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen. —Pope Leo XIII
