The Sabbath

According to 1 Cor. 1:22, “the Jews require a sign” because their nation began with signs (see Ex. 3, 4).  And the Sabbath is a sign to Israel according to Exodus 31:13-17 and Ezekiel 20:12, 20.  It is the 4th of the Ten Commandments: but it was a ceremonial (not moral) commandment (see Ex. 20:8-11) given to the Jews by Moses (see Neh. 9:14).  Therefore when Apostle Paul listed the Decalogue in Romans 13:9, he purposely omitted the Sabbath Day Commandment because he was writing to Christians—and a Christian (who is baptized into Christ’s body) is neither Jew nor Greek (see 1 Cor. 12:13; Gal. 3:28, 6:15; Eph. 2:15; Col. 3:10-11).  The Sabbath is a prophetic sign to the Jews because according to Ezek. 44-46, Is. 66:23, and Col. 2:16-17 they will keep it in the Millennium. (See also Is. Ch. 56.)

¶Note: the subject of the FOURTH Chapter of the Book of Hebrews 'just happens' to be the FOURTH Commandment.  However, here in Hebrews 4, it is revealed by the Holy Ghost that the sabbath day of rest is only a shadow: which is fulfilled when we enter into rest by placing faith in our Lord Jesus Christ's finished works on the Cross (John 19:30).  We are not working to be saved; we are resting because we ARE saved.  The real sabbath keepers are not those observe the last day of the week; but they are those that are in a state of continual rest because our salvation is complete.  Amen.
