Willow
(Fantasy movie from
1988)
I got interested in the movie Willow
because I remembered it, but never saw it.
I looked it up on Wikipedia and it was released on May 20, 1988.
It is a dark fantasy movie directed by Ron Howard and produced by George
Lucas. I then read the plot for it: the beginning
of the movie is an emulation of the births of Moses (Ex. 2; Heb. 11:23), Joash (2
Kings 11), and Jesus (Matt. 2).
- There’s
a prophecy of the child’s birth (there were prophesies of Jesus’ birth)
- Who
would be a deliverer (Moses delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage
& Jesus Christ was a spiritual deliverer from sin and Satan),
- There
was a wicked queen (the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda)
who killed all the pregnant women and children (that’s like Pharaoh,
Herod, and Athaliah), “…that wicked woman…” (2 Chr. 24:7)
- But
the child escapes (that’s like Joseph taking Jesus into Egypt),
- Then
the child is sent down the river and Willow
finds him (that’s like baby Moses who was found by Pharaoh’s daughter in
the river).
George Lucas wrote this story, but he doesn’t know anything
about the Bible! There’s a SPIRIT behind
the men that put out these fantasy movies that have Biblical plots. I’ve heard Bro. Ruckman
talk about this too.
