John Witherspoon

According to Wallbuilders.com, 29 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence had degrees from Bible colleges or seminaries.  Also, there was a signer of the Declaration of Independence that was a clergyman: his name was John Witherspoon.  He was born in Scotland of February 5, 1722, by the age of four he could read the Bible, and eventually recite most of the New Testament.  He was a descendant of the minister John Knox.  By the age of 20 he had a doctorate in theology and a license to preach. Witherspoon was a ‘Founding Father’ and a ‘staunch Protestant’.  He was the sixth president of Princeton University.  He died November 15, 1794.
