Spiritual Edomites: demon-possessed men

By Prophet Jacob R. Blandford

(A study on the word “dragons” in the Authorized Version.)

"The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.

I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,

And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness."

(Malachi 1:1-3 KJV)

“As it is written,

Jacob have I loved,

but Esau have I hated.”

(Romans 9:13 KJV)

I see prophetically Malachi 1:3 & Psalm 44:19 referring to devils or demonic spirits.  We know that Satan is named the "dragon" (Rev. 12:3, 9, 20:2).  The devil is also "… the god of this world…" (II Cor. 4:4); and “leviathan” (Isaiah 27:1; Job 41:1).

In Malachi 1:3 I think we can take a deeper prophetic application to this verse and apply it not only to the descendants of Esau, but also to the spiritual Edomites: degenerate men.

"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon…" (Rev. 16:13)  One of the curses God places on men for hating the truth of the Gospel is that they became demonically possessed.  As "dragons" inhabited the mountains of Edom, so also do devils reside in the souls of Christ-rejecting men.  Jesus Himself made this explicitly clear, "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation." (Matt. 12:43-45)

During Christ's ministry on earth our Holy Lord was often rebuking devils and casting them out of men.  Demon possession is possible, just think about Legion. (Mark Chapter 5) And it's a just punishment of God, because of man's sinfulness. (see Rom. 6:16)

St. Paul made a distinction from the spiritual seed of Abraham and the physical seed; so also this is done with Esau.  "As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." (Rom. 9:13)  Jacob is Israel.  Esau is Edom.  The seed of Jacob are the children of God.  The seed of Esau are the children of the devil. (see John 8:44; 1 John 3:10)

God hates sin, therefore He punishes men's sins by permitting Satan's devils to posses their souls; and thus leads them into darker and darker paths: and eventually eternal destruction.  This is their desolation: no truth, no Spirit, no Word, no Christ, no righteousness, no wisdom, no understanding, no salvation.  They are dead. (see Eph. 2:1, 5)

The Bible predicts greater spiritual wickedness in these last days. (see I Tim. 4; II Tim. 3)  Therefore we need to be strong in the grace of Jesus Christ, put on the whole armour of God (see Eph. 6:11; 1 Thess. 5:8), and call upon the Holy Ghost for power.  In Jesus Christ holy name, I pray, Amen & Amen.

One more thing: God's going to leave the seven mountains of the dragon-possessed Antichrist laid waste too… very soon.  I'm referring to the Pope: the king and head of the general defection (2 Thess. 2:3).

The brief Book of Obadiah depicts God’s war against carnality (Edomites) too.  In the Millennium the whole land of Edom will be the place of the lake of fire (see Is. 34:5-10, 66:24).

¶ Read Dr. Ruckman’s comments about the KJV’s inclusion of the word “dragons” and contrarily, the new versions’ exclusion of it. (See ‘The Bible Believer’s Commentary Series: Vol. 1 of the Book of Psalms’ by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, pages 369-371 and ‘The NIV: An “In-Depth” Documentation of Apostasy’ by Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, pages 12-13, 21.)  MODERN VERSIONS OF THE BIBLE HATE THE WORD “DRAGONS”!!!  When I was a kid I played the NES video game ‘Double Dragon’ (cf. Jeremiah 9:11, 10:22, 14:6, 17:18).

The “dragons” in Psalms 74:13-14 is a 7-headed “leviathan” (see Rev. 12:3, 13:1, 17:3, 7).  And the Leviathan in Job 41 is certainly more descriptive of a mythological dragon than a jackal.  Plus, the creature Pharaoh represents in Ezek. 29 is much more descriptive of a dragon than a jackal. (The NRSV inconsistency reverts to ‘dragon’ in this verse, though it is the same Hebrew word [Strong’s #8577 tannin] used in every other Old Testament instance.)  Plus, the dragon describes Satan, in the Book of Revelation, who is basically a supernatural ‘super-serpent’.  Plus, there is a dragon (singular) and dragons (plural) just like there is a devil (singular) and devils (plural).  Plus, a lot of times you are reading the word dragons in the Scriptures you have a dual application of a physical creature (like maybe a dinosaur) and a spiritual creature (an evil spirit or demon).  The AV 1611 simply faithfully renders the Hebrew tannin to give the intent of the original Hebrew... and the intent of the original Hebrew was to represent both the natural and supernatural.  Because let’s not forget: the Holy Bible is a spiritual Book!

¶ Moreover, the ‘dragon’ maybe a mythological creature, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a real spiritual manifestation of ‘dragons’... Because there is.  And the reason dragons have been part of the myths of both in the Asian and European cultures is because someone had a spiritual vision or revelation just like the holy prophets of old and St. John the divine.
