Notes on Hebrews Four Twelve
Why is the word ‘quick’ and
‘sharp’? And why does it ‘divide’? Because it divides the men from the boys when
it comes to ‘rightly dividing the word of truth’ (see 2 Tim. 2:15). And it does
so very evidently in this very chapter.
The scholars and preachers lose their bearings when it comes the book of
Hebrews (and for that manner also Matthew and Acts because they also are
‘transitional’ books). Now the Bible has
to be rightly divided all throughout it: and the biggest way it is divided is
by the covenants and dispensations (I suggest getting a Scofield KJV Study
Bible to learn more about that). But
here in Hebrews, the letter is addressed to HEBREWS. This is a general epistle towards the back of
the Bible. Here the church age is over
with and you are now in the tribulation; and God turns his attention again back
to Israel. But how do
you divide Hebrews Chapter 4? Well
first, the “gospel” in Hebrews 4:2 is not the Pauline “gospel of Christ”! There are 10 different Gospels in the Bible
and this was the Promise Land Gospel that if the Israelites whipped the giants
they could posses the land of Canaan. (see Num. 13) Stupid Bible scholars jam all this together
and think those Israelites had the same revelation we have. Their gospel involved faith and works. Remember the 10 Commandments? Our gospel is grace alone through faith alone
in Christ alone. When the Holy Spirit
inspired Paul to write Hebrews, the Holy Spirit was looking prophetically, not
at the church age, but at the tribulation HEBREWS. And again in the tribulation it will be faith
+ works. Just read Rev. 12:17, 14:12, 22:14. Look at the “gospel” in Rev. 14:6: here
again, “another gospel” (Gal. 1:6-9) is being preached; by an angel, which if
it were in this dispensation, Paul would have cursed! This is why some Christians think works are a
requirement for salvation; because they jam all this together. But again, the book of Numbers is not the
church age, the book of Hebrews is not the church age, and the book of
Revelation (other than the first 3 chapters) is not the church age! So when Paul said there remains a rest to the
people of God in Hebrews 4:9, he is not talking about Gentile Christians
(though we can certainly draw a spiritual application). But doctrinally the Spirit is talking about
the millennial and sabbatical rest for 1,000 years for Israel when she is restored at the second coming of the Lord
Jesus Christ. (cf. Isaiah 14:7) In
Hebrews 4:9 the Holy Spirit is encouraging tribulation Jews to endure to the
end of the tribulation (see Dan. 12:4; Matt. 24:13-14; Heb. 3:6, 14, 6:11) [that is one of the WORKS you have to keep if you
are tribulation saint] until the Second Advent (Heb. 9:28, 10:37);
because then they will ‘enter into rest’.
It will be “the seventh day” (v. 4) of human history (cf. II Pet.
3:8). In Hebrews, the Holy Spirit is
looking forward to “the world to come” (Heb. 2:5, 6:5).
And because the modern
scholars and preachers don’t rightly divide the word of truth (and some of them
don’t even have the word of truth because they’ve rejected the AV): the word of
God CUTS THEM AS A SWORD! Hebrews 4:12
and Ephesians 6:17!
In Jesus
Christ’s holy name, Amen.
