Messianic James River Prophecies

See Psalms 72:8, 89:25; Zech 9:10

There is no question that the three above listed scripture references deal with Old Testament chapters describing the Messiah.  These particular verses deal with the Messiah’s dominion over the world’s ‘seas and rivers’.  These prophecies haven’t been fulfilled yet because the Lord Jesus Christ has not yet returned to establish his Judeo-Christian Kingdom headquartered in Jerusalem.  However King James I of England partially fulfilled this prophecy.  Let me explain.  On the other side of the world, in the ‘New World’ (cf. Heb. 2:5, 6:5) Christendom began to spread through evangelicals: this was a type of Christ’s millennial kingdom expanding.  King James had the word of God translated in 1611; and the Lord Jesus is also known as “The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13).  So when the river in Virginia[i] was named after King James, it was also named after his preeminent Bible translation, which featured the New Testament of Our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ.  So in type or in similitude the James River was named after the King (James) whose Bible (the 1611) made Jesus Christ famous in America.  This is Christian dominion over a river—therefore these three scripture verses are prophecies which have been partially fulfilled by King James, who himself served and worshipped the King of kings... The Lord Jesus Christ.

Another way of explaining this is with the kingdom of God and with the kingdom of heaven.  Now these ‘river’ passages primarily deal with the Messianic prophecies of what Saint Matthew called “the kingdom of heaven”.  This is the Davidic throne in Jerusalem which Christ inherited (Luke 1:32-33), but has also been postponed due to the Jews rejection of their Messiah and King.  However, these prophecies have NOT been eradicated but they WILL be fulfilled in the near future when the Lord Jesus Christ, at His Second Advent, restores the Davidic kingdom to Israel.  But wait one minute!  I’m not through yet!  There is not only the kingdom of heaven (which is a literal and visible kingdom) but there is “the kingdom of God” (which is a spiritual kingdom [see Rom. 14:17].)  That is the kingdom we are in now; and it was a mystery until it was revealed to the Apostle Paul (see Romans 11 & Ephesians 3).  In this spiritual kingdom, which we call the Gentile Church age, we have seen a remarkable expansion of the Christian religion since the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.  The history begins in the Book of Acts, but also includes the Book of Revelation which was written by the Apostle John in 95 Anno Domini.  Since then Christianity has spread all over the earth (see Mark 16:15 & Acts 1:8).  Right now the Holy Spirit is the King of the Church.  In the last 2,000 years, through the Spirit’s guidance, the church has evangelized almost the entire world.  After the Protestant Reformation in Europe, the fact that King James I of England established the first permanent settlement in the New World called JAMESTOWN in Virginia AND also had the JAMES River named after him—and the fact that in this man’s name we have the authorized end-time Translation of the holy Scriptures in the universal end-time language of English—serves as great evidence that the Bible is correct in its prediction of worldwide conquest and the eventual eternal rule of the Judeo-Christian new world order: even if it is partially true. (see Is. 11:9; Hab. 2:14)  Through King James, we have seen the spiritual fulfillment of the prophecies in Zech. 9:10 and Psalm 72:8 via the kingdom of God: and because we have now seen the partial fulfillment—it also means we will also see the primary fulfillment which these Old Testament prophecies were originally intended to be aimed at viz. a physical, visible, literal, and political kingdom headquartered in Jerusalem, Israel—governed by the Son of David (whom we Christians know to be Jesus Christ) with the twelve tribes and a regenerated environment (see Matt. 19:28).  Back in the late 16th century and the early 17th century the “new world” was the last major inhabitable continent to be explored and civilized; it was also the last major area in the world where the Gospel of Christ had not reached.  But it was reached and King James gets the historical credit for it by being addressed to in the Mayflower Compact (our nation’s first and founding document) and by being the founding monarch of America in Jamestown[ii] in 1607.  And America (primarily because of King James’ 1611 Bible Translation) swiftly because the greatest Christian nation the world has EVER known, without a doubt!  THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM OF JESUS CHRIST IS NOT HERE YET BUT ISN’T IT REMARKABLE HOW WONDERFULLY THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION HAS SPREAD TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD FROM WHERE IT ORIGINALLY BEGAN!!! (see Acts 1:8, 13:47)

[i] The colony of Virginia was named after Queen Elizabeth I of England a/k/a “The Virgin Queen”.  She was the commissioner of the 1568 Bishops Bible which was the underlying basis for the 1611 King James Translation.  She was mentioned in the Epistle Dedicatory: “that bright Occidental Star, Queen Elizabeth of most happy memory”.
