This beautiful edition of the 52 Longprimer is bound in a soft Dark Green Meriva natural grain calfskin with a generous semi-yapp cover, and is leather-lined in navy split calfskin, with gilt line round the inside of the case, and features double-sprayed red under gold art gilt page edges and three eau de nil (light green) ribbon markers with white head and tail bands.

Revised edition includes our distinctive 8pp Presentation Page and Family Record as well as 32pp of navy feint rule Allan notepaper in addition to the dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.

First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.

Our latest Longprimer printings hark back to a vintage copy of the classic Longprimer, printed in the period 1952-1958 under Charles Batey, then Printer to the University of Oxford, returning to a page image that is much closer to the original intentions of the typesetters. This new-old page image retains the large, clear type of the Longprimer we all know and love, but has a crisper letter form and less of the broken type and 'spread' that mark out much-used letterpress typesettings subsequently transferred to film and, only more recently, to digital scans.

¶ Allan Oxford 43 Longprimer Highland Goatskin Purple Bible

Today (Saturday, May 27, 2023 Anno Domini) I received my Purple goatskin 43 Bible by Allan Oxford, and boy is it beautiful!  The 43 is considered a thinline.

This Bible has red leather lining, red under gold gilding, and three purple ribbons. (3 for the Trinity).  The red and purple colour combination reminds me off the purple (Mark 15:17) and scarlet (Matthew 27:28) robe Jesus Christ wore in his passion.  Red and purple is also the colour of the Harlot in Revelation 17:4.

I have six Allan Oxford longprimer Bibles.  I have: the purple goatskin 43, green goatskin 43, green calfskin 52, purple calfskin 52, the black calfskin 62 sovereign, and the petrol blue calfskin 62 sovereign.

The two 52’s and the black 62 I bought from Bible Baptist Bookstore in Pensacola, Florida.  The two 43’s and the petrol blue 62 I bought from Evangelical Bible in Richmond, Virginia. (I live in the Richmond area and it only took one day for the Bibles to arrive to me from the times I ordered them.)

On this purple 43, the red under gold gilding almost looks pink when the Bible is open.  It reminds me of Easter colours.  I think I’ll use the purple Bibles in the summer (for Easter); and the green Bibles in the winter (for Christmas). [Psalms 74:17 KJV]

¶ Update (10/10/2023 A.D.): Yesterday I got a new black 52 longprimer meriva calfskin silver line edition.  And today I got a new plum meriva calfskin 62 longprimer sovereign.  So now I have total of 8 Allan Oxford Longprimer Bibles.  Thank you Lord Jesus Christ!
