The Rainbow & Cross Covenant
In Genesis 9:8-17 we read about how God gave Noah the rainbow as a sign for an "everlasting covenant" (Genesis
We can still see God's covenant with Noah still in effect today. We see rainbows from time to time, and man is it neat! But it's not just the rainbow that's important; it's the meaning behind the rainbow. Let me explain… God said the rainbow would be a perpetual sign: and it is, because we still see them today. This everlasting rainbow covenant points us toward the centerpiece of all covenants: the Covenant of Christ's Cross. And since the rainbow is an eternal sign, so is the Cross. After God preserved Noah and his family's lives, He then gave them the rainbow. God has also preserved us through Jesus Christ and given us the Cross as a sign.
Now I'm not just coming up with this analogy on my own, the Holy Spirit has shown me these things because He is the Spirit of truth, and consolation through the truth. We still see God saving men through faith in the blood of Christ's Cross. We still see rainbows in nature. The reason we still see these things is because they are "everlasting" just as God told us in this Word. But if you'd like further proof that there is a connection between the rainbow and the Cross, the Scriptures itself bear witness… "For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee." (Isaiah 54:9-10) See, God Himself likens the covenant of the rainbow to the covenant of peace we've received through the blood of Christ's Cross. "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven." (Colossians 1:20)[i] Remember, the New Covenant “gospel of Christ” (Rom.
Now if someone disputes that Isaiah 54 is an Old Testament passage that doesn't apply to the Christian's covenant of the Cross, I'll answer with this… First read II Timothy
So there you have it, the next time you see a rainbow remember that God will NEVER forget the Covenant He made with us through Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. For Christ's Holy Namesake, thank you Dear Master, in Jesus' Name I pray, Amen & Amen.
And, if a false prophet tells you that God has changed the received, Scriptural ordinances… TELL HIM THE CROSS OF PEACE & THE RAINBOW OF PEACE AIN'T GOING AWAY!
