One of the old folk name for the devil is “old split foot”. This is because the devil is believed to have
cloven feet like a calf. But where does
that come from? The answer is: from the
Book of the Prophet Ezekiel. In Ezek. 28:11-19
the devil is identified as an “anointed cherub” (v. 14). And then going back to previous chapters from
Ezekiel, the cherubs are described in the first and tenth chapters. The cherubs described there have this
description: "And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. And
their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of
a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. And they
had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had
their faces and their wings." (Ezek. 1:6-8 KJV) These same creatures are specifically called “cherubims” in the 10th Chapter of Ezekiel. One of the greatest lies about the devil is
that he is a fallen angel. Wrong! He is a fallen “cherub” (Ezekiel 28:14). He is transformed into an angel (2 Cor.
